Occupational therapists are known to use careful analysis of  environmental, psychosocial, physical, mental, spiritual, cultural and political factors to correctly identify barriers to proper functioning of any individual. Occupational therapy draws upon the fields of psychology, anthropology, sociology, and many other disciplines in consolidating its knowledge base.

Occupational Therapy Course Requirements

In order to become a certified occupational therapist, students must have earned a master’s degree in OT. The process of obtaining a master’s degree may take up to six years to complete for full-time students, which includes four years for a bachelor’s degree in Occupational therapy and then an additional two years of graduate school. After completing the required occupational therapy courses and earning a master’s degree, students are also required to pass an examination in order to recieve their occupational therapist license. This is a step necessary in all 50 states. To become properly licensed and certified, students must graduate with accredited online occupational therapy course degree program and then pass a national occupational therapy certification exam, which earns them the official title of Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR). Various states may have additional certification requirements, especially for OTRs interested in working in schools or with young children. It is  recommended that students interested in registering for occupational therapy degree courses contact their specific state’s licensing board for additional information.

Occupational Therapy Postgraduate Courses Online

For students who do not want to take Occupational Therapy Courses for six years in a traditional learning setting to earn a master’s degree, there are accredited online Occupational Therapy Postgraduate Courses as well as Occupational Therapy assistant courses  that can take less time to complete. There are only 40 states that require occupational therapy assistants to pass the examination and become licensed. Though this may be a  viable alternative, it is well known, however, that  assistants salary is lower than occupational therapy salary for a certified practitioner.

 Occupational Therapy Continuing Education Courses

Occupational therapy continuing education courses will equip you with the necessary knowledge to work collaboratively with other professionals in order to help people who have an impairment of body structure or limitation in functioning due to a specific health condition, and who may experience various barriers to adequate participation in everyday activities. These courses often place special emphasis on the most current practice issues, including such topics as quality management of services,  research and communication skills and ethical issues.

Occupational Therapy Courses are offered at many colleges and universities as well as online and can help you earn your OT degree and license in the most convenient setting suitable for your specific needs and aspirations.
